Care and Maintenance of NERLITE Machine Vision Illuminators


NERLITE Machine Vision Illumination Products are engineered and manufactured to high quality standards to meet the needs of industry applications.  By following the care and maintenance practices outlined below, your standard NERLITE products will meet warranty qualification requirements and provide years of trouble-free service.

Installation Environment:

  • Ambient air temperature not to exceed 40° Celsius (104° Fahrenheit).
  • Humidity not exceed 95% (non-condensing).
  • No exposure to liquid splash or spray for units that are not NEMA-4X or IP-64 rated.
  • Precautionary measures taken to protect illuminators, controllers and power supplies from fine-particle conductive contaminants (e.g. metallic dust from milling operations).
 

Power:

  • A power source matching power requirements as described in the unit’s specification sheet 2 must be provided for all illuminators and controllers.
  • A well-grounded source of AC power matching power requirements as described in the unit’s specification sheet must be provided for all NERLITE power supplies.
   

Cleaning:

  • Illuminator, controller and power supply housings should be cleaned by buffing with a dry, lint-free cloth whenever a build up of dust or other contaminants is noticeable.
  • Illuminator lenses, beamsplitters or anti-reflective shields must be cleaned whenever dust or other contaminant build up decreases light intensity. CAUTION: these components are susceptible to breakage, displacement and scratching if not treated with care. All cleaning agents and materials used must be lint and abrasive free and suitable for use on plastic and/or glass. First, clean these components with low pressure, contaminant-free compressed air (Miller-Stephenson Aero-Duster or equivalent).

    • When additional cleaning of glass components is needed, use Miller- Stephenson Cleaner for glass, plastic, or metal (or equivalent) and wipe with a lint and abrasive free cloth.
    • When additional cleaning of plastic components is needed, “fog” the component with your breath and wipe with a lint and abrasive free cloth.
    • If spots are evident after cleaning, wipe with a cotton or foam tipped swab moistened with alcohol and blow dry with low pressure, contaminant-free compressed air.
  • Foam filters on actively-cooled (fan) illuminators, controllers and power supplies should be removed and cleaned by using compressed air or a vacuum cleaner whenever a build up of dust or other contaminants is noticeable or at 30 day intervals. Extremely dirty filters may require washing with water and mild detergent. Dry thoroughly before reinstalling.
  • Cooling fins (heat sinks) of passively-cooled illuminators, controllers and power supplies should be cleaned by using a soft bristle brush, compressed air or a vacuum cleaner whenever
